14-year-old hit, killed while crossing the street in Avondale

A driver fatally struck a 14-year-old as they were crossing the street in Avondale on Tuesday evening, officials said.

The teenager was crossing the street at El Mirage Road and Pima Street just before 7:30 p.m. when the driver struck them, according to Avondale Police Department spokesperson Lauren Evans.

The teenager, who had not been identified as of Wednesday morning, was taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators, Evans said. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

No further details were immediately available. An investigation is ongoing.
